Previous fieldschools:
The Lemba Archaeological Research Centre, a section of the University
of Edinburgh's Department of Archaeology, located near Paphos in western Cyprus,
will offer five excavation field schools at Easter and summer 2001. They are:
19 March - 14 April, 2001
Excavations of Early Chalcolithic (c. 3800-3400 BC) KISSONERGA-MYLOUTHKIA.
The first chalcolithic settlement to be discovered with major enclosure walls/ditches,
burials in the ditch fills etc.
25 June - 13 July and 18 July - 5 August, 2001
Excavations at the TOMBS OF THE KINGS, PAPHOS.
This is a Roman cemetery located in the World Heritage site of Nea Paphos,
western Cyprus
20 August - 16 September, 2001
Excavations at SOUSKIOU-LAONA.
AMiddle Chalcolithic (c. 3400-2800 BC) cemetery. Investigations include mapping
and rescuing information from a unique site in the hills behind the Temple
of Aphrodite
Late September-October, 2001
Excavations at KISSONERGA-MYLOUTHKIA.
This school will concentrate on rescuing rich information from some of the
earliest wells in the world (c. 8000 BC). The fills contain material from
the first successful colonists of the island While preference will be given
to those with basic excavation skills, places are open to all.
