Palaeoenvironmental material from the Neolithic Cypriot site: Kantou-Koufovounos.   published in: The excavation report of E. Mantzourani at the Kantou-Koufovounos site from 1994 to 1995. Epistimoniki Epetirida tou Tmimatos Arxaiotiton, 1996, Nicosia

English summary

The study of the remains at the Neolithic site Kantou-Koufovounos is of great significance. It reveals elements relevant to fauna, flora and generally to the natural environment where the prehistoric populations of Cyprus used to live.

One should take under consideration the difficulties encountered by the archaeologists due to the bad preservation of the ecofacts buried in the hostile soil. The excavation at this particular site refers to human and animal bones, shells and plant remains. Each of the species, found at the site, depends on climatic and environmental factors and provides science with considerable information on the natural environment and the human prehistoric community of Kantou-Koufovounos.
