ORDNANCE SURVEY
The Directorate of Overseas Surveys (DOS, the predecessor of OS International) flew aerial photography of the southern 2/3 of Cyprus between 1957 and 1976, scales 1:8000 - 1:25 000. OS International Library has a set of prints, but the air films (i.e. negatives) were handed over to the Cyprus Lands and Surveys Department in batches between 1964 and 1982.
Please order prints from Lands
and Surveys Department (cnr. Dimofondos-Alasias, TT 1075 Nicosia, tel +357
2 304929, fax +357 2 766171).A contact there is Christos Zenonos, Lands Officer
A (Survey & Cartography), for details of their holdings. They have more complete
coverage than OS and are the national mapping agency of Cyprus.
Email: try mech@cytanet.com.cy (although
one effort using this route has failed)
The DOS contract numbers were 30 (1957), 72 (1963), 138 (1973) and 162 (1976).
There are hundreds of frames.
If you wish to study the photography here in the Southampton office, there is a library fee of £50.00 + VAT per day per group of 1-6 people, payable on the day of visit. We can make laser copies of the library prints for £10.00 + VAT each, if you first obtain written copyright permission from LSD.
For RAF photography, please
apply to the Ministry of Defence, Defence Intelligence Staff, Imagery Management
(Policy 1), Room 272, Old War Office Building, Whitehall, London SW1A 2EU,
fax 020 7218 0823.
LSD has a 1:5000 map series of Cyprus. We hold some sheets here, but there is no sales stock in the UK.
